How printing works

Spatula can automatically print receipts and kitchen dockets on your thermal printer whenever a new order comes in. This works with Sunmi devices (using the built-in printer) and external Bluetooth thermal printers.

Getting started

  1. Install the printing app on your Sunmi or Android device. You will receive a download link and setup code from your dashboard.

  2. Enter your setup code — the app will automatically configure itself with your store details, including your store name, ABN, and receipt layout.

  3. Connect your printers — the app detects your built-in Sunmi printer automatically. For external Bluetooth printers, pair them in your device's Bluetooth settings first, then add them in the printing app.

Receipt types

  • Full receipt — a complete tax invoice with your store header, all items, modifiers, totals, payment method, and a QR code. This typically prints on your main printer.

  • Kitchen docket — a compact order slip filtered by category (e.g., only drinks). You can set up a secondary printer to receive only certain categories.

Multiple printers

You can configure multiple printers. For example:

  • Main printer (Sunmi built-in) — prints full receipts for all orders.

  • Drinks printer (Bluetooth) — prints dockets for beverage items only.

  • Pizza station printer — prints dockets for pizza items only.

Customising receipts

In the dashboard under Settings > Operations, you can customise your receipt layout including your store name, ABN, footer text, and QR code.
