When card payments fail
If customers report that their card payment is not going through at checkout, here are the common causes:
1. Card payment not enabled
Check Settings > Payments and make sure card payments are toggled on and your payment account is connected.
2. Customer's card issue
The most common reason for failed payments is an issue on the customer's end — insufficient funds, expired card, or their bank declining the transaction. Ask the customer to try a different card or contact their bank.
3. Check for error messages
The checkout page shows specific error messages when a payment fails. These messages usually explain the reason (e.g., "Card declined", "Insufficient funds", "Invalid card number").
4. Offer alternative payment
If card payments are not working for a customer, they can switch to cash payment (if you have it enabled) and pay when they pick up or receive their delivery.
