Free Delivery Threshold

What is the free delivery threshold?

The free delivery threshold is a minimum order amount that, when reached, waives the delivery fee for the customer. It is a simple way to encourage larger orders and lift your average order value without running a full discount campaign.

For example, if your threshold is set to $40 and a customer's order subtotal reaches $40 before delivery, they pay no delivery fee.

How customers see it

When the threshold is enabled, customers see a friendly progress message in their cart such as "Add $6 more for free delivery". As they add items, the message updates in real time. Once they cross the threshold, the cart confirms that delivery is now free.

This nudge is one of the most effective ways to grow basket size, because customers can see exactly how close they are to the reward.

How to set it up

  1. Open your Dashboard.

  2. Go to Settings, then the Storefront or Experiential section.

  3. Find the Free Delivery Threshold setting.

  4. Enter the order subtotal that unlocks free delivery (e.g. $40).

  5. Save your changes.

The threshold applies to all delivery zones unless you have configured custom rules for specific postcodes.

Choosing the right amount

A good threshold is high enough to genuinely lift your average order, but low enough that customers feel it is achievable. Most restaurants set the threshold around 25–40% above their typical delivery order value.

When the threshold does not apply

  • The threshold only applies to delivery orders. Pickup and dine-in orders are unaffected.

  • Coupons and loyalty discounts apply to the subtotal before the threshold check, so a discount may move a customer above or below the line.

  • If a delivery zone has been set up as always-free, the threshold is irrelevant for that zone.

Tips

  • Test the threshold by placing a small test order and checking the cart message updates correctly.

  • Combine the threshold with upsell suggestions in the cart to give customers easy ways to reach it.

  • Review your average order value monthly and adjust the threshold if it stops moving the needle.
