Ingredient Removal and Special Instructions

What is ingredient removal?

Ingredient removal lets customers take items off a dish before ordering — for example, removing onions from a burger or pickles from a sandwich. It works alongside special instructions, which is a free-text box where customers can leave notes for the kitchen, such as 'cut in half' or 'extra crispy'.

How to set up removable ingredients

  1. Open Menu in your dashboard.

  2. Find the product you want to edit.

  3. Open the Ingredients section.

  4. Add each ingredient that customers should be able to remove (the system will also auto-detect ingredients from your description).

  5. Save the product.

How customers use it

When a customer opens the product, they see a list of ingredients with checkboxes. They untick anything they do not want. They can also type a note in the special instructions box at the bottom of the modal. Both the removed ingredients and the note are printed on the kitchen receipt and shown in the merchant app.

Tips

  • Only list ingredients that can realistically be left out — keep the list practical for the kitchen.

  • Use special instructions sparingly. Customers who write very long notes may slow down preparation.

  • Train kitchen staff to scan for the 'No' lines and the special instructions block on every ticket.
